Other than me, there are lots of famous people 'from Tarn.' Geoff Boycott, Micheal Parkinson, (Sir) David Hirst, John Stones, Brian Glover, Darren Gough, Mick McCarthy and Shaun Dooley.

Some of Barnsley's finest went on Knighthoods. Some wrestled and played football. Others, like me joined the ranks of the British Army.

Barnsley, now dubbed a Place of Possibilities ought to be known as the place for a good quality Pork Pie. Several butchers including Percy Turners, Rob Royd and Cannon Hall serve up some of the best pies in the land. Never mind that Molton Mowbray nonsense. I have saying that goes like this. Barnsley isn't the best place to live, but it's by far not the worst. There's some great places to visit in the borough, such as Elsecar Heritage and Cannon Hall.

Some words are just efficient. They do the job in one syllable, no drama, no decoration, and everyone knows exactly what you mean.

Buy the Print Here (family and friends recieve a discount)

Snap is one of those words.

If you grew up anywhere near Barnsley (or you’ve spent enough time in a Yorkshire kitchen), “snap” isn’t a photo. It’s food. It’s the packed lunch. It’s what you grab before you head out. It’s practical, familiar, and oddly comforting.

And once you notice it, you start hearing it everywhere.

What does “snap” actually mean?

Snap (noun): a simple meal, usually packed up and eaten on the go.
Often accompanied by tea in a flask, a sandwich that’s seen some things, and the sort of quiet contentment you only get when you’re outdoors and not being rushed.

It’s not “lunch”, because lunch sounds like you had options.
Snap is what you have because you’re getting on with it.

Why I turned it into a print

I’m building my shop around the idea that everyday life is worth noticing properly, whether that’s a pool of London light on wet pavement or a Yorkshire word that carries a whole childhood in four letters.

“Snap” is more than slang. It’s a little cultural time capsule. It reminds me of work, graft, school days, matchdays, and those ordinary moments that never felt important at the time, but somehow stick.

So I designed a clean, typographic print that treats the word with the respect it deserves: simple, bold, and ready for a wall.

A nod to the Yorkshire Collection

The Yorkshire Collection is my growing set of northern words, small truths, and bits of identity that make you smile when you see them. Think of it as home, but in print form.

Some pieces will be proper dialect. Some will be sayings. Some will just be that feeling of Yorkshire, translated into something you can hang up, gift, or keep near your desk as a reminder to stay grounded.

If “snap” resonates, you’ll feel at home in the rest of the collection too.

Where to find “Snap”

The Snap: Yorkshire Slang Print is live in the shop now, and it’s part of the wider Yorkshire Collection.

View the Yorkshire Collection

*family and friends recieve a discount)

Use it as a kitchen print, an office print, a gift for someone who’s moved away, or a quiet nod to where you’re from.

Thank you for visiting Editions Photography

Please subscribe to my news letter for the latest news.

Barnsley roots, Yorkshire pride, and one perfect word: “snap”.
